Where Can I Secure Free
Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) Services for my Child?
As of January 2002, the following North American public school
districts, counties, or provinces are the only programs that employ
certified auditory-verbal therapists on their professional staff, and
AVT is provided at no charge to children who attend the schools within
these areas:
USA
Huntsville/Madison Counties, Alabama
CREC Soundbridge: statewide, Connecticut
Gloucester, Massachusetts
District #287-Plymouth, Minnesota
Bergen County, New Jersey
Buncombe County - North Carolina
Delaware County, Pennsylvania
Bucks County, Pennsylvania
Berkeley County, South Carolina
Charleston County, South Carolina
Richland District 2/Columbia, South Carolina
Salt Lake/Davis County & St. George, Utah
CANADA
Montreal, Quebec
New Brunswick
Newfoundland
Nova Scotia
Mississauga/Ottawa/Toronto/Windsor, Ontario
Prince Edward Island
Saskatchewan
This is insufficient. The public sector is obligated to provide the
auditory-verbal approach for children with hearing loss. Training is
needed if all 50 American states and 10 Canadian provinces are to
adequately serve our children. Toward that end, this trainer will
provide auditory-verbal training workshops at NO consultation charge to
the public school sector providing these workshops are arranged through
their respective state and provincial departments of education.
Should anyone learn of another school district, state, or province
that includes auditory-verbal therapists on its salaried professional
staff, and that program is not yet included in this list, please contact
ellen@AuditoryVerbalTraining.com
so that this list may be updated.
(Please note that most Cert. AVTs within the USA are in private
practice. Some of them contract with public school systems for delivery
of A-V services. Because these therapists are not salaried by the public
sector, they are not listed here.)
